EAGLE SCOUT AWARD EARNED
Troop 3 of Burlington is proud to recognize its 123 rd Boy Scout who has earned the Eagle Scout
Award.
Isaac DuCharme, son of Lawrence and Darlene, is a Junior at Notre Dame High School and
completed his Eagle Scout Board of Review on September 11, 2024. A member of Troop 3 since
2019, DuCharme held positions of responsibility in the Troop as Patrol Leader, Quartermaster,
and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. DuCharme greatly enjoyed water activities earning two “50-
Miler” awards, one for canoeing, and the other for kayaking, on the Current River in Missouri.
Additionally, he earned a 75-Mile award during a self-supported kayak trip on the Cedar, Iowa,
and Mississippi Rivers. Isaac has also earned the Ad Altare Dei, Parvuli Dei, and Light of Christ
medalsAnd in 2023, DuCharme was part of a Troop 3 crew that whitewater kayaked and rafted
for five days at the Summit in West Virginia.
Charter Organization Representative Dan Fell said, “Isaac is a great Scout. Not scared of hard
work or adventure. He is someone you can count on.”
Each Eagle Scout candidate must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges and successfully complete
a community or church related service project to earn his Eagle. DuCharme earned thirty-one
merit badges as a Boy Scout and led a project designing and building storage cabinets for St.
Johns Catholic Church.
Troop 3 Scoutmaster Don Schier stated, “Becoming an Eagle Scout is an outstanding
achievement, and the lessons learned in scouting are for life.”
The Eagle Scout Award is the Boy Scouts of America’s highest advancement award. Nationally,
less than 6 percent of scouts attain the rank of Eagle.
Troop 3 is Iowa’s Oldest Boy Scout Troop. Founded in 1916 at St. John’s Church, they have been
continuously chartered since 1917. In 2022, American Legion Post 52 of Burlington, became
Troop 3’s chartered organization.
