Troop 3 of Burlington is proud to recognize its 123rd Boy Scout who has earned the Eagle Scout Award.
Isaac DuCharme, son of Lawrence and Darlene DuCharme, is a junior at Notre Dame High School and completed his Eagle Scout Board of Review on Sept. 11.
A member of Troop 3 since 2019, DuCharme held positions of responsibility in the Troop as Patrol Leader, Quartermaster and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.
DuCharme greatly enjoyed water activities earning two “50-Miler” awards, one for canoeing, and the other for kayaking, on the Current River in Missouri.
Additionally, he earned a 75-Mile award during a self-supported kayak trip on the Cedar, Iowa, and Mississippi Rivers.
And in 2023, DuCharme was part of a Troop 3 crew that whitewater kayaked and rafted for five days at the Summit in West Virginia.
“Isaac is a great Scout. Not scared of hard work or adventure. He is someone you can count on,” said Charter Organization Representative Dan Fell.
Each Eagle Scout candidate must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community or church related service project to earn his Eagle.
DuCharme earned 31 merit badges as a Boy Scout and led a project designing and building storage cabinets for St. John’s Catholic Church.
“Becoming an Eagle Scout is an outstanding achievement, and the lessons learned in scouting are for life,” said Troop 3 Scoutmaster Don Schier.
The Eagle Scout Award is the Boy Scouts of America’s highest advancement award.
Nationally, less than 6 percent of scouts attain the rank of Eagle.
Troop 3 is Iowa’s Oldest Boy Scout Troop. Founded in 1916 at St. John’s Church, they have been continuously chartered since 1917.
In 2022, American Legion Post 52 of Burlington, became Troop 3’s chartered organization.
